Oscar Vild PRESENTS the bitter reality of life through “Happy Prince”?
The Happy Prince was very happy when he was alive. He did not know, what tears were? He lived in a palace where sorrow was not allowed to enter. He did not know that the pleasure was not happiness. He was totally cut-off from the common people and their miserable life. He did not at all know what human misery was.
When he was died his statue was fixed on a tall column in the middle of the city. Now he has an opportunity to look and see the miserable life of common people. He was misery and ugliness presented all round him. So he wept and wept as he could do nothing being fixed at one place.
One night a little swallow came to rest between his feet. He found the prince weeping over the miserable condition of his people. The happy prince and swallow then helped the poor and needy. One night prince requested to swallow to take the ruby of his sword and gave it to the poor boy who was suffering from fever. He wanted to have orange which he could not buy because of his poverty. The swallow obeyed. Next night the swallow wanted to fly again. But the prince requested it to take the sapphire of one eye to a poor play writer. It was so cold that it was difficult for him to complete the play. The swallow obeyed. Next night he requested it to take sapphire of other eye to the poor girl. The girl was selling match boxes and all the boxes had fallen into gutter. And become useless. The obeyed and helped the poor girl.
The swallow began to love with happy prince. Now both the innocent characters helped the miserable people. The result was strange the swallow died of cold and the leaden heart of the prince was broken. Both sacrificed themselves for the good of humanity.

Why the happy prince was happy when he was alive?
The Happy Prince is an imaginary and unreal story. The central idea of the story is that love and sacrifice are the most valuable things in the eyes of God. This massage has been presented through “The Happy Prince”.
The Happy Prince was very happy when he was alive. He led a life of luxury and comforts. He lived in the palace of Sans Sauce with his companions. It was a palace of comfort and luxury. In that palace sorrow was not allowed to enter.
In the day time he played with his companions in the Great Hall. Every thing gave him pleasure. He used to play in the garden. He was totally cut-off from the common people and their miserable life. He did not at all know what human misery was. He led a life of isolation. There was a great lofty wall between the Prince and his people.
Every day was the day of enjoyment for him. He led his life in playing, singing and dancing. He did not know the difference between material and real life. He did not know happiness was not pleasure. That’s why he was known as the name of the Happy Prince.
But when he died his statue was fixed on a tall column in the middle of the city. Now he had an opportunity to look and see miserable life of the common people. The happy prince was no longer happy now. His vision was changed now. He felt such a great pain in his leaden heart that his sapphires eyes wept.
The prince told the swallow that it was his courtiers who called him “The Happy Prince”. Indeed he lived a very happy life and rightly called “The Happy Prince”.
